Art Gallery Meet Up

Hello! Sorry for the late post~ Things have been hectic lately! I’m planning on doing my 2018 Wardrobe Post soon, just waiting on a few things stuck in the mail~ This week, I want to talk about an amazing art gallery I went to two weekends ago in Buffalo with my friends! We went to see Takashi Murakami’s “The Deep End of the Universe” exhibit before it left the Albright Knox museum. His art is known for its bright colors and rebellious images of creatures and when I saw the promotion, I knew I just had to visit.

His art is so cool!!! It would be an understatement to say I felt inspired. He has such beautiful art, I felt inspired entire time! I’m an artist myself and I wish I could make such beautiful things. Upon leaving art school, I found myself losing direction and struggling to remember why I liked to draw. I love visiting art galleries because being able to see what others create motivates me to be better! I hope in 2018, be it art or Lolita fashion, I can find new ways to express myself! These bright, poppy, colorful, and punk feelings are part of why I love alternative fashion! I even got one of his pins as a souvenir!

The museum also had another exhibit going on “Out of Sight: Art of the Senses,” an exhibition devoted to showcasing pieces that touch upon simulating the 5 senses! There were exhibits that made sounds, some you could touch, even some you could taste! There was also some very interesting pieces in the permanent collection as well.

I wore my Magical Etolie skirt with the apron for the first time! I loveeeee pink, I wish I could wear it more often ;v; Somehow I ended up owning a lot of red dresses first! xD

Just your local resident black Barbie girl~ (Really though, I felt like a Barbie with this makeup!) For it, I tried pink, yellow, and blue eyeshadow, combined with pink and yellow nailpolish to match Magical Etolie!

Tea at the Red Bird

Happy Monday! October means a great month of beautiful fall weather & activities! This past weekend, I experienced my first legit tea party with my Lolita community! We planned & reserved out a tearoom in a nearby town and it was hands down, the best meet I’ve ever gone to thus far.

The name of the cafe is called The Red Bird so of course, what better occasion for wearing red? The event was also a good introduction back into ouji for my other half, Bobby, who first tested the waters during the Swap Meet earlier this year for International Lolita Day! I’m really thankful for his participation. A girl in my comm, Emily, made a headband for one of her dresses and it ended up matching Bobby perfectly! He got to borrow it for the rest of the day!

I experimented a little with makeup! I wanted to go for something circus-inspired to match my dress so I tried out some white under eyeliner with red lipstick to imitate a clown smile!

The food was so wonderful, lots of delicious sandwiches & baked goods. The trays had grapes, raspberries, and oranges as well for additional sweetness! At this cafe, you can pick your own tea cup and plate so I naturally selected a full pink set.

After the tea & lunch, we decided to take lots of group & coordinate pictures while the lighting was still good. I shockingly got a lot of great coordinate pictures out of it! Usually I mess up a lot of my pictures by laughing or posing awkwardly but I’m extremely proud of how a lot of these came out (thanks to Bobby for his phone & photo skills!)

We regularly got stopped by people who were interested in what we were wearing. Lots of photos were taken of us! It was definitely a pleasant contrast to a few weekends ago when I went to the movies & mall with Bobby. I guess because I was wearing lolita alone, it was easier for people to glare and be suspicious. In a group setting, where everyone is clearly having fun, people are laughing, and genuinely enjoying each others’ outfits, I guess for bystanders, the appearance is that we’re a “group” or doing it “for something” is enough to make the reaction more positive and welcoming. I’d like to test out the waters and contrast more public opinions received while in a group setting vs. sole lolita but that’s a different blog post for another day!

My lovely friends!

After photos, we walked down the street to go to a bunch of different stores. We went to multiple antique shops, a comic book shop, and later a gift shop. At the gift shop, I actually managed to find something that I think would be great for my coordinates in the future! It’s a drama mask pin and the design matches the drama mask brass hair barrette I wore during the Swap Meet. I also made a clown friend!

Overall, I can’t say enough positive things about this meet. Perfect weather, perfect food, perfect company! Days like that just really solidify why I love this fashion so much. Beyond just beautiful clothes, there’s a strong sense of community, togetherness, and expression. While I’m sure I would be a lone Lolita in the event I did not have an immediate surrounding community that I could help energize, there’s a lot to be said on how satisfying it is to be able to share your passion with other passionate people. I love being able to just sit and talk and express myself. It’s one of the greatest feelings in the world to me and I’m absolutely looking forward to our next big meet!

Casual Bubble Tea Meet-Up

Hello! Thanks for joining me this week!

Two weekends ago, I hosted a casual meet-up and I wanted to share my pictures! I’ve been trying to host more casual meet-ups to encourage busy or inactive people in the community to participate. There’s a bubble tea place right down the street from my apartment so I thought it would be the perfect place to meet for one or two hours. The bubble tea place also specializes in a sushi bar with lots of delicious arrangements of sushi!

RSVPs for the event were very sporadic but a few people actually ended up showing up! It made me super happy! Because it was casual, I also opted for a more casual look, changing the outfit I wore to the circus slightly. It was definitely interesting walking down the street in lolita fashion, definitely not something I’m used to despite it being a street fashion. I hope I’ll eventually be able to get used to it and do it more often!

I hope you enjoyed reading this little snippet! I hope over time I can host more casual meet-ups and that more people will get involved! Hosting events is definitely stressful, especially when it comes to making sure the guests, location, and activity are in order. However, by the end of it, I think it’s all worth it!

‘Til next week!

International Lolita Day – Swap Meet & Picnic

This past Sunday I hosted my very first lolita meetup!

To celebrate International Lolita Day, my community had a swap meet & picnic!

I was really nervous because it was my first time ever hosting a meetup and I hadn’t met most of my comm yet. On top of that, the weather forecast predicted thunderstorms for a few days.  I made sure to buy tarps to put up in the picnic shelter, but fortunately despite raining in the morning, it cleared up very quickly and was sunny for the rest of the day! (*´▽`*)

One lolita brought loose tea and it was definitely one of the most refreshing experiences I’ve had in a while. Drinking fresh hot tea on a cool rainy morning was such a pleasant feeling. Another lolita brought these very delicious ice cream cone s’mores!

Because lolita has become such a large part of my life, I’ve introduced my boyfriend, Bobby, to ouji fashion. He was thoughtful enough to consider trying it out for the picnic so I made sure we took a picture together even though we didn’t exact match. It’s my dream to color coordinate something wonderful with him!

Ultimately I ended up selling 3 blouses & a pair of wristcuffs! I swapped and got a blouse, a cutsew, bloomers, black otks, and a very lovely black Innocent World JSK!

Overall, it was a massive success and I’m very thankful I got to meet my comm on such a lovely day!

Karaoke Lolita

Happy Sunday!

I’m really excited for this post because I got to go to my very first local lolita community meet-up! Which also means I got to wear my first lolita coord in a group!

We went to a local karaoke bar for our meet-up and it was fantastic!

The karaoke place is catered by a local Japanese restaurant and so I ordered a delicious bowl of pork bone ramen.

(not pictured: my tears TvT)

The first song I sang was “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet and that was so muh fun!

Cute comm picture!

My full coord!

Blouse: Bodyline

Skirt: Bodyline

Tights: Offband

Wristcuffs: Bodyline

Shoes: An*tai*na

Purse: Innocent World Carousel Bag

I’m really in love with this skirt & blouse. As mentioned, I’m really into circus & Alice in Wonderland themes so I really like the harlequin inspired skirt and the Alice detailing on the necktie.

I’m already so excited for my next opportunity to wear lolita!

Til next time!
