Birthday Arcade

Happy Monday! My birthday was this past Friday and I spent it with my favorite things: games, friends, and frills! Friends from my lovely comm were nice enough to escort me to a local restaurant/arcade to celebrate my 24th birthday!

Grape Slushie with Gummy Worms

I didn’t realize I shared a birthday with the Olympics so we spent most of dinner watching the Olympics Opening Ceremony! I’ve never really watched the Olympics before so it was cool to see how much effort was put into the opening presentations. Afterwards, we spent a lot of time playing in the arcade. I played a lot of Guitar Hero! (ง’̀-‘́)ง

The weather was awful because it was snowing all day, and people were rude to us for being dressed up multiple times during the night but I wore this crown all night because it was my day to celebrate!

Blouse: Excentrique Lace Collar Crown Blouse

I had one of the best birthdays I’ve had in a very very long time. It was nice to just spend it having fun with people willing to brave a heavy snowfall night for me :’) And I never would have met any of them without this fashion I love so much! Happy Birthday to me! Here’s to another good year!

Thanks for reading! That’s it for this week! Next week, I should finally be uploading my wardrobe post so please look forward to it! ^_^

‘Til next week!

Art Gallery Meet Up

Hello! Sorry for the late post~ Things have been hectic lately! I’m planning on doing my 2018 Wardrobe Post soon, just waiting on a few things stuck in the mail~ This week, I want to talk about an amazing art gallery I went to two weekends ago in Buffalo with my friends! We went to see Takashi Murakami’s “The Deep End of the Universe” exhibit before it left the Albright Knox museum. His art is known for its bright colors and rebellious images of creatures and when I saw the promotion, I knew I just had to visit.

His art is so cool!!! It would be an understatement to say I felt inspired. He has such beautiful art, I felt inspired entire time! I’m an artist myself and I wish I could make such beautiful things. Upon leaving art school, I found myself losing direction and struggling to remember why I liked to draw. I love visiting art galleries because being able to see what others create motivates me to be better! I hope in 2018, be it art or Lolita fashion, I can find new ways to express myself! These bright, poppy, colorful, and punk feelings are part of why I love alternative fashion! I even got one of his pins as a souvenir!

The museum also had another exhibit going on “Out of Sight: Art of the Senses,” an exhibition devoted to showcasing pieces that touch upon simulating the 5 senses! There were exhibits that made sounds, some you could touch, even some you could taste! There was also some very interesting pieces in the permanent collection as well.

I wore my Magical Etolie skirt with the apron for the first time! I loveeeee pink, I wish I could wear it more often ;v; Somehow I ended up owning a lot of red dresses first! xD

Just your local resident black Barbie girl~ (Really though, I felt like a Barbie with this makeup!) For it, I tried pink, yellow, and blue eyeshadow, combined with pink and yellow nailpolish to match Magical Etolie!

That’s it for this week! As always, thanks for tuning in! ‘Til next time!

MAGfest 2018

Happy Monday! I’m still a bit tired from the long drives but two weekends ago, I was in National Harbor, MD for MAGfest! Super MAGfest is an annual Music and Gaming-based convention. I had vaguely heard about it but didn’t really consider going until my friend invited me! So Bobby and made the 9-our drive to Maryland from Rochester! This post is photo heavy!

The area inside of the Gaylord hotel is amazing, it’s like a self-contained functioning village with rooms that overlook an area of mini shops and restaurants. The convention runs for 24 hours so there were always people around from day to night.

I didn’t really go to any panels (one of the ones I wanted to go to actually got repeatedly cancelled). I instead spent most of my time talking and hanging out with new and old friends! I did get to see Rare Candy in concert again! Rare Candy is a game-themed metal band! The first time I saw Rare Candy was at Tora Con many years ago. I really liked them beccause of their music and fantastic onstage presence. I lived my Lolita dressed of being at a metal concert in a full coord!

Rare Candy on stage

Outside of the convention, I ran into someone dressed entirely in fairy kei! So adorable, we took a photo together!

When I first arrived at the Gaylord, I was waiting for Bobby to come back from the car and a Lolita named Jessica stopped me to inform me about a Lolita Meetup! We ended up meeting up both on Friday & Saturday! We went up to balcony to get great coordinate photos in the lighting. On Saturday, we hung out a bit at the arcade and took some Lolita gaming photos! So many lovely people!

On Saturday, I decided to wear Electric Circus in the Moonlight Night with the matching bonnet since I had yet to wear it and cons are usually a great chance to go OTT. I tried doing something different with my makeup, combining red and blue eyeshadow and lots of blush to cover up the fact that i was sick. Bobby took a lot of generous and beautiful photos of me! Not a bad coordinate to start off the year! ^^ More photos can be seen on my Coordinate Photos 2018 page!

Bag: Alice and the Pirates Tent Bag

Friday night, I hung out with my friend for a bit in this cool club! The area near the seats lit up and changed colors!

Saturday was a pretty fun day filled with a lot of walking around, exploring booths, and getting merch from the Vendors Hall! I met up with one of my good friends who I haven’t seen since early last year and talked! He also introduced me to some of his friends who were playtesting their super fun game called Boiling Point, a game in which you, as a crab or lobster, try competing against other players to leave the chef’s pot before you’re cooked alive! A very surprising and fun competitive game! xD I won the first round and can’t wait to play the final product! I also got to see a lot of really cool cosplays!

On Saturday, I went in a different coordinate direction and wore my new gold lipstick with red under eye shadow. I think I lived the dreams of teenage me! xD I felt very awesome and adorable!

Blouse: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Étoile Filante Chiffon Blouse

Rosette: Miss Danger Shop

Tassel: Offbrand

OTKs: Alice and the Pirates Night Out Gymnasium OTKs

Bag: Surfacespell Freak Show

On Sunday, the convention was wrapping up. Bobby and I were preparing to head back to Rochester so I dressed more comfortably and wore decora for the first time in a long time! It was great to accessorize! Even though Lolita fashion is ultimately what I ended up liking the most, I’m always constantly inspired by decora and the people I’ve gotten to talk to through the style! I tried pink and blue eyeshadow and lotsss of hairclips!

Overall, I had a fantastic time! Almost too good of a time, I was tired for days hahaha! I’d really like to go again next year!

Thanks for tuning in, ’til next week! 🙂

Taobao Haul – #1

Hello! This week, I will talk about my first Taobao orders! There’s a little bad and a lot of good so let’s get started!

Taobao can be described as an online marketplace. Individual sellers and business create storefronts with unique urls. These online storefronts showcase a wide range of products from shoes to accessories to clothes. Lolita Fashion, interestingly enough, has become incredibly popular in China, sparking a wave of indie Chinese brands that produce Lolita dresses and accessories through individual Taobao shops.

It’s getting close to the holiday season so I anticipated things would calm down here in regards to local meetups and blogging. What I didn’t anticipate was that my Taobao orders would be delivered to me before the end of the year!

For a little background, I have ordered one thing using Taobao before: a bag in the shape of a jellyfish by Taobao brand MilkyWay. However, this blog entry is about my first time making a large haul order and a dress pre-order.

So, let me talk about my first dress experience because it actually ended up being negative. Before I used SpreeNow and before I started placing orders, I reserved a dress through a different shopping service. I pre-ordered Bell Langue’s Code JSK, matching headbow, and sweater (for Bobby) in the ivory colorway.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The dress arrived after around 3 months of waiting. But the color turned out to not be color accurate to the picture. There was also a miscommunication on sizing so the dress turned out to be a size I wouldn’t have ordered otherwise (though it still does fit) Bobby loves the hoodie! I’m glad his part of the order ended up working out even though there was another sizing miscommunication. As for me, I think I’ll end up parting ways with the JSK and head bow. Maybe I will be able to find it in another colorway in the future!

Looking back, I knew the possibility was there but this was my first lesson that there’s always a risk in ordering from Taobao brands, not because they can’t be trusted, but because there isn’t a defined level of quality control among all brands. In addition, there’s a lack of feedback and reviews considering brand releases are very sporadic and often singular.

So, for my SpreeNow order, I ordered from a few brands: Mix Mania, MuFish, Ruby Rabbit, and Dream Holic. Dream Holic has produced my favorite wigs so I opted for my very first mass order direct from them, springing for 5 wigs, 3 in the same style. MuFish and Ruby Rabbit have a few pairs of tights I had my eye on for a few months. In addition to my hobby of Lolita Fashion, I also like anime, so from Mix Mania, I ordered an ita bag (collection-based window bag) to celebrate one of my favorite anime characters! With the orders placed, I played the waiting game for everything to arrive and be organized together.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Before I get onto the direct images, I want to talk about SpreeNow a bit more. This shopping service is incredibly easy to use. All you need is a direct link to the product page and then, after creating an account, you can get a direct translated shopping page for what you want to order and can organize everything in a cart system. Communication happens through a text chat system and responses are usually quick and within 24 hours. The best part, in my opinion, is the ability to re-arrange boxes. It gives an additional area of control that allows you to plan for what arrives to you when you want and with what else you want. So I highly recommend using it as a great introduction to shopping through Taobao stores! So onto the haul!

Everything arrived in two separate boxes that I had planned out. One for the bag and the other for all the tights and wigs. I’ll be reviewing the Dream Holic wigs on their own on a later date so I won’t include many pictures of them in this post!

Picture of everything!

I LOVE the Mix Mania bag! It’s amazing in person! It’s very spacious and the window has a good amount of space for merchandise. I bought the purple color, hoping to match it with my Yuri!!! on Ice Christophe Giacometti merchandise. Chris owns a cat in the anime so the cat ears really appealed to me! I took a few pictures below of the front and back, with additional ones with the merchandise. I’m heavily considering also ordering the pink and green but I’m not sure what I’d do with them yet.

The Ruby Rabbit tights came well-packaged in their own decorative bag. I really like their Alice-inspired tights!

I ordered two pairs of the white & black transparent diamond OTKs from MuFish just in case a pair gets damaged or I want to match a coordinate more with Bobby. Right now, they’re a little tight because I have thick calves so just a head’s up if you’re considering them! The circus-themed tights are also a little on the short end, with my height, the print stretches considerably so when I wear them, I’ll probably layer them over white tights to keep the print opaque.

That’s it for this post! I’m really excited with the results of this haul! I’ve already worn one of the Dream Holic wigs out and am looking forward to writing a full review on those. I’m also planning out new coordinates with my new themed tights~ If you’re interested in using SpreeNow to shop from Taobao shops, Here’s my referral link!

I already have a few other items I’ve reserved in my cart so I anticipate making more haul posts for this blog. Please look forward to them! Thanks for reading!

RuffleCon 2017 Part 2

Hello! Today is Part 2 of my RuffleCon 2017 series! A week later and I’m still tired from such a great weekend!

On Saturday, I went to the fashion shows of Ikemen Mode and The Bloody Tea Party. It was great seeing such amazing outfits! The witch bonnet is definitely a unique piece!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Ikemen Mode has easily jumped up my personal list of favorite EGL Brands. I was deeply impressed by the outfits I saw in the fashion show. They had a booth in the Marketplace so I made sure to stop buy and got to meet the designer Sheri! Ikemen Mode features Ouji and Aristocrat fashion pieces in a wide arrangement of sizes, highly desired considering that Japanese sizes tend to run smaller than European sizes. Additionally, ouji fashion made by major Japanese brands tend to be catered more towards women so the sizes often also reflect that.

Later in the day, I also ended up going to the Metamorphose temps de fille fashion show! The line was very long!

I was really amazed by the amount of detail in some of the new dresses!

That night, there was a dance with a DJ! I had a blast and took a lot of photos!

Sunday went by very quickly. I went to a very interesting parlor magic panel in the morning and then spent the rest of the day in the Marketplace for some last minute purchases.

Overall, I got a lot of stuff from the Marketplace and the Consignment shop. It was great seeing the Ikemen Mode booth up close. I didn’t have enough money at the time but I will definitely be buying some of their blouses and accessories in the future! I also got to buy a necklace from Tokimekiteikoku. I’ve loved and admired her jewelry from afar so it was great to get to buy something in person. Other things include a crown from Voodooodolly, a rosette from Miss Danger Shop, and other miscellaneous accessories.

I got the opportunity to wear more circus coordinates throughout the weekend! I tried picking two coordinates that would be easy to use similar accessories for to minimize packing. I like how they turned out~ More pictures will be on my coordinate page!

RuffleCon 2017 Part 1

Hello! This past weekend, I was at RuffleCon!

I’ve decided to break this event up into two separate parts. Part 1 will be on Friday and Part 2 will be on Saturday and Sunday!

RuffleCon is an alternative fashion convention hosted in Stamford, CT. It’s run for a few years but as this is my first year officially in Lolita fashion, this was my first year attending the con. The trip was a joint trip between the Rochester and Buffalo Lolita communities. Lauren, Cristina, and I traveled down to Stamford from Rochester by car. It was around a 7 hour trip! We made a joint hotel stay with some of the people from the Buffalo Lolita comm. Our hotel room was pretty nice and my Weekend Plus ticket came with food at the hotel buffet!

On Friday morning, we waited in line for registration and consignment intake. They have a consignment room, in which people bring in Lolita items to sell. RuffleCon takes a 20% cut of whatever sells and people can browse a large room filled with clothes!

I made a few purchases in the consignment room! I bought a pretty blue headband. I also found Angelic Pretty’s Marionette Girl Skirt in the pink colorway! I have been looking at Marionette Girl sporadically over the last few months so it was exciting to find it here for only $30! Instant buy!

Angelic Pretty Marionette Girl Skirt

Throughout the day, I went to a few interesting panels. I went to a panel about resin crafting and another one about pattern sewing!

At night, I entered the annual Coordinate Contest. For a few months, I spent a lot of time planning a coordinate to match perfectly with the Alice and the Pirates Jesters of the Moon Hat I purchased earlier this year.

The coordinate went through many changes and iterations, including two main dress changes. Once I got the main part of the coordinate planned out, I made a handmade scepter as well to match the hat! The scepter is made out of wood, ribbon, and glue. I hope to make a tutorial post about how I planned and constructed it soon!

Ultimately, I didn’t end up placing in the contest but the reception to my coordinate was so overwhelmingly positive! It really made me feel like my hard work paid off in some regard at least ;v;

On stage!

OTKs: Alice and the Pirates Circus Stripe OTKs and Diamond Lame OTKs

Shoes: John Fluevog

Accessories : Fanplusfriend (gloves)

After a long day of travelling, talking, and photo taking, my friends and I spent some time just hanging out and talking. We wrapped up the night with two more panels, including a hilarious improvised performance competition of reciting “Lolita Secrets,” and turned in for the night! It was definitely hard to want to take off my makeup, I liked it so much!

That’s it for Part 1! Stay tuned next week for Part 2! Thanks for reading!

Spooky Saturday Hangout

Happy Monday! This past weekend, I did a little shopping and grabbed sushi with my friend, Cristina! We decided to dress up and it was a great opportunity for me to break in these cool bat shoes I got recently in a trade!

Cristina & I regularly go and get bubble tea & sushi together but this time we went to a different sushi place because our other friend, Tempest, was having a sale at her shop. Tempest sells lots of cute j-fashion clothing & accessories, as well as her own handmade stuff! I ended up buying quite a few things including new eyelashes, large pom-pom clips (that I think will be great for circus coords), an eyelash holder, bat tights, and one of Tempest’s handmade deco boxes!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Tempest took a pic of me & Cristina before we left for food!

Tempest’s shop and the sushi place are located in this indoor shopping plaza. It seems on this exact day, there was a handmade craft fair going on at the same time. We kept getting compliments as we walked through as well as a lot of “nice costumes” ….. xD We stopped at a few various shops including this antique toy shop! I bought matching Care Bear cups for me & Cristina ^^ And then finally sushi!

I’ve eaten here once before so I order a type of sushi roll with soft shell crab. It’s so good, Cristina kept swapping pieces with me xD

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

After sushi, we went to a cupcake shop also located in the plaza! I got a raspberry lemonade cupcake for myself an a caramel apple one for Bobby back home! ^_^

It was such a fun day! I really enjoyed going to different shops dressed in Lolita. I don’t really shop at major retailers so whenever I go to the mall, I don’t really buy anything outside of Hot Topic. Because of this, wearing Lolita at a mall isn’t really as much fun. It was nice to actually wear Lolita and look for nice interesting things from a variety of unique shops rather than franchises. I hope I can do something like this again soon!

That’s it for this week! Thanks for reading!

Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum: Patches, Antiques, & More

Hello hello! This past weekend I visited Buffalo & Lockport with my boyfriend. ^_^ The Buffalo Lolita community planned a meet-up for the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum and some Rochester lolitas decided to join in! I was debating going but my boyfriend, Bobby, expressed needing to go to Lockport to do an errand for his mother. With the errand & the meet, we decided to turn it into a full trip!

We rented a hotel room & spent some time going to the Buffalo Zoo and then shopping at Walden Galleria. At the mall, we went to a few places and I got some new patches, notepads, makeup, & a pop figure.

casual outfit~

spoils of the mall!

At the Carrousel Museum, we got to learn about the history of carousels and how this company made most of the carousels around the United States. It was interesting to see how they went from completely wooden horses to half-wood/half-metal horses, to fiberglass horses. I loved the designs of so many of them!

Example woodshop

At the end of the walkthrough. my friends and I got to ride the large carousel together! ^_^

everyone was super cute >_<

Before we went in, I managed to get some good selfies and Bobby took some wonderful outfit shots for me! This is my first time wearing this dress out so I was super excited. I bought them from my Wunderwelt Order recently. I had trouble with the bonnet but one the girls in my comm, Lauren (who I went with to the Memorial Art Gallery) helped me secure it! ^_^

Tokyo Otaku Mode: Otaku Prize Spin Haul, ACDC Lucky Pack, & Review

Hi hi! Long post ahead! This week I talk about my recent haul with Tokyo Otaku Mode!
Tokyo Otaku Mode is a massive online seller of Japanese brand items, unique content creators, and anime merchandise & figures! I’ve ordered a lot in the past but thought I’d do a review of the website due to a recent promotion. Tokyo Otaku Mode has offered the “Otaku Prize Wheel.” Spinning this wheel allows you to enter an ongoing competition for a special prize, as well as qualify for a $3, $5, $10, $50, or $100 coupon that expires in 24 hours. After getting yet another $10 coupon, I took a gamble, shared the prize wheel on my twitter to get another chance at spinning, and actually won the $100 coupon!!!

With that special occasion in mind, I decided to place a large order. xD

Part of the reason I stopped ordering regularly from TOM was due to the changes they made on their shipping. Shipping is generally really expensive on the website so it’s really difficult to get more bang for your buck, especially when buying just one or two items. For $150 minimum, you can get free shipping but only under specific certain conditions otherwise you get a shipping discount and TOM points in return so I sprung for that option! With the $100 coupon, I had to put at least $250 worth of things in my cart. (Managed to hit it with just .97 cents over!)

The haul! Complete with shipping discount & TOM Point return!

Tom also recently started a Membership system with an Early Bird Price of $4.99. If you continue, you get special discounts on certain objects & a credit of TOM Points. I figured it couldn’t hurt to at least give it a try.

The SWIMMER biscuit bag has been on my second-tier wishlist for a while now. But it’s incredibly difficult to find secondhand in good condition for a reasonable price. I had been eyeing these FLAPPER biscuit bags on TOM since they’re really similar in design and since I recently found a SWIMMER biscuit bag in Strawberry (pink) on Yahoo Japan auctions, I decided to get the FLAPPER bags in the two SWIMMER colors I wouldn’t have (beige & camel)

FLAPPER Biscuit 2-Way Duffle Bags in all colors / Source: Tokyo Otaku Mode

I also opted for a smaller pass case in the Brown color to go with the pink SWIMMER biscuit bag as I’ve been planning a coordinate with the recently launched Cream Cookie Parade by Angelic Pretty!

Other choices include a cute Sentimental Circus tissue box cover and some Rilakkuma stationary & school supplies. I’ve started to enjoy writing letters so anything that’s stationary related is very appealing to me!

Lately, I’ve been purging my wardrobe so to speak, getting rid of everything I don’t absolutely love. As a result, I’ve made at least half a dozen trips to the local Goodwills and sent off many packages both for friends & buyers. With most of the excess gone, I’ve been looking to replenish my wardrobe with new things so I thought I’d get this Listen Flavor shirt I’ve been eyeing all summer (Listen Flavor is definitely my favorite everyday Japanese fashion brand) and to try out the ACDC RAG Lucky Pack since ACDC RAG seems to be getting more active on TOM’s website.

So this review will be broken up into two parts; The overall TOM haul and then specifically the ACDC RAG lucky pack! Let’s begin!

I placed my order on July 20th. It shipped on July 24th. I missed the original delivery on the 27th and got it delivered on the 28th.

Main TOM haul:

Very large box!

Normally with every TOM order, you get a free file folder featuring the art of a special artist. This month’s artist has beautiful artowrk. Can’t take my eyes off it.

Free File Folder

The thing I decided to open first was the Sentimental Circus Tissue Box Holder! It’s so large and fluffy!

The stationary set was very well packaged in its own plastic container. I love the colors, very soft pastel purples, pinks, and blues.

The stationary set is something else. On the website, it’s marked that it includes:

Memo pad
Pencil board
12-pack of 2B pencils
Soft pen case

The memo pad has no lines so I think it’ll be great for drawing or practicing my Japanese writing. The pencil case is soooo soft! It comes with two sides for storing pencils and an internal pencil sharpener.

I also got some nice Sentimental Circus washi tape, a new pair of scissors, and a file folder with matching print.

Already in love with these scissors. I have a habit of misplacing my scissors but I can’t even imagine misplacing this cute pastel pink pair!

The file folder is really cute, it’s called Sweet Lolita by OTOE. I chose the blue version! I love her expression and can’t wait to find a good frame for it.

The file folder is partially see through and lovely.

Lookin’ coolllll

The stars of this order are definitely the Biscuit Bags though! Sturdy, well made, cute colors, cute shape! I’m glad I went with the decision to get Beige & Camel!

The Pass Case is very interesting in that it’s really firm & sturdy! I didn’t expect that at all, seems like it’d be great for holding pass or identification cards.

Brown Pass Case

And of course, the Listen Flavor shirt. This makes probably shirt number…10-ish of Listen Flavor shirts I have! I really dig the popcorn shark, it’s also apparently reversible!

Overall a great haul! I love the collection of everything. All very well packaged, with strong quality over all the brands I explored. The FLAPPER bags were the first FLAPPER items I’ve ever bought and with how pleased I am with the quality, they’re definitely going to be a foundation I turn to for lolita bags, especially with SWIMMER’s recent announcement that they’re closing.

Now for the moment of truth! The Lucky Pack!

ACDC RAG Lucky Pack:

I actually got the lucky pack sampled on the website! Came with everything shown and I don’t mind that at all because I actually really like the sample pack! There’s only one shirt I don’t like so a turn around of two shirts, two bottoms, and a belt isn’t bad for the price.

ACDC RAG Lucky Pag / Soucre: Tokyo Otaku Mode

Very large plastic drawstring bag

This is the shirt of the pack I don’t like, not a fan of a print

Toothpaste Toothpaste Toothpaste

I’m completely in love with the skull print top! That and the unicorn skirt are great patterned- additions to my wardrobe!

The skirt is definitely a little short, I’d have to wear them with leggings or pants underneath because I’m just too tall. However, the waist has elastic so it’s very comfy to wear. Super bright and colorful with an adorable print! I’d love to wear it during the day-to-day or make a decora based coordinate with it.

But what I REALLY like the most are these pants! I love the heavy jogger style pants that have been getting more and more popular lately. I own a pair of black & white polka-dotted pants in a similar shape from listen Flavor and I’ve been itching to own another pair of these comfortable pants.

That’s it for this week! Whew! I hope you enjoyed both reviews! Winning the $100 coupon was definitely a stroke of dumb luck but I’m thankful for the nice additions to my desk/stationary life, daily wardrobe, and lolita wardrobe. Let me know what item you liked the most in the comments! Until next time!
